Heather Knight is an English cricketer who became the captain of the England women’s cricket team in 2016. He is a middle order batsman. She became the first woman and also the first English player to score an international century in all three formats of the game, hitting a 66-ball 108 against Thailand at the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s 2018 New Year’s Honors List. In 2023, she was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

When he was young, his family moved to Plymouth, England, where he grew up playing cricket with his brother. Speaking about his childhood in an interview, he said:

My brother and I used to play in the back garden and we both joined the local cricket club, Plymstock CC. I spent most of my childhood there playing in the boys and men’s teams, but I didn’t really consider cricket as a potential career path until I spent four years with the England national team and got professional contracts.

He attended Plymstock School. He joined Plymstock Cricket Club at the age of 8 and went on to play in its men’s 1st XI. He was offered a place at Cambridge University to study natural sciences, but turned it down in order to have time to play cricket. He went on to complete a BA in Physiology at Cardiff University (2012).

Knight’s cricket journey began with Plymstock Cricket Club’s under-9 team, where she was the only girl to play in the men’s 1st XI. He played Devon League cricket with the men for Plymstock.

In Super Four, the women’s limited overs cricket competition in England, she played for the Diamonds, Sapphires and Emeralds. At the age of 18, she became a member of the women’s team of the English Academy. Knight captained the Western Storm team in the Women’s Premier League (also known as the Kia Super League (KSL)) in 2016. He was the captain of the team in 2017, 2018 and 2019. On 21 June 2016, in a match against Pakistan, she became the first woman cricketer in cricket history to score 50 and take five wickets in an ODI innings. In the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup, her captaincy saw England win the tournament, defeating India by 9 runs at Lord’s. During the second group match against Pakistan, Knight shared the 3rd highest partnership in Women’s Cricket World Cup history with 213 with Natalie Sciver. England beat Pakistan by 107 runs in the match.

She captained England in the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in which her team lost to Australia by 8 wickets. On 12 December 2019, during England’s series against Pakistan in Malaysia, Knight became the tenth woman for England to play in 100 WODI matches. In the match, she scored her maiden century in WT20Is and became the first cricketer to score a century in all three formats of women’s international cricket. On 3 July 2021, in a home series against India, Knight scored his 3000th run and took his 50th wicket in WODI cricket. Knight captained England at the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in which Australia defeated England by 71 runs in the final. In July 2022, he was named England captain for the cricket tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
