Eknath Shinde was born on Sunday, February 9, 1964 (age 58; as of 2022) in Mumbai. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. In 1981, he completed his 11th grade from Mangala High School and Junior College, Thane. He also attended Thane Municipal Corporation School, Kisan Nagar and Rajendra Pal Mangala Hindi High School in Thane. After entering politics in 2014 when he became a minister in the BJP-Shivsena government, he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yashwantrao Chavan Open University, Maharashtra. His main subjects were Marathi and Politics.

He is married to Lata Eknath Shinde who is in the construction business. The couple has a son named Shrikant Shinde who is a politician and an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Shrikant Shinde contested Lok Sabha elections from Kalyan constituency in 2014 and was elected as Member of Parliament defeating his opponent, NCP candidate Anand Pharanjape. His two children, Dipesh Shinde, son and Shubhada Shinde, daughter, died on 2 June 2000.

Career
Eknath Shinde studied till the eleventh standard and dropped out to earn a living for his family. In the 1980s, when he was in the autorickshaw driving business, he was introduced to Shivsena supremo Bal Thackeray and Shivsena Thane district chief Anand Dighe, who helped him join the Shiv Sena.

After that, he started initiating several political and social actions focusing on inflation, black marketing, hoarding of essential goods like palm oil by traders, etc. He was detained by the police for forty days for his participation in the Maharashtra-Karnataka border agitation. In 1997, he was appointed as the corporator of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). In 2001, he was named TMC house leader and served till 2004. After the death of Anand Dighe, he was appointed as the head of the Sen state. Corporation, Kalyan-Dombival Municipal Corporation, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation, Ambernath Municipal Council and Badlapur Municipal Council under the leadership of Eknath Shinde. In 2004, Bal Thackeray allowed him to contest the assembly elections and he was elected Member of Parliament from Thane Legislative Assembly Constituency with a huge margin of votes.

In 2005, the Shiv Sena appointed him as Thane district chief. He won successive Legislative Assembly elections in 2009, 2014 and 2019, leading to his appointment as the leader of the Shiv Sena Legislative Party and Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly. Eknath Shinde was appointed Minister of Public Works in December 2019. He has been given additional charge as the Chairman of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). In 2019, he was appointed as the Health Minister of Maharashtra and soon after he was appointed to fill 890 posts of MBBS doctors and specialists in several hospitals, issued rules for payment of salaries to contract workers under the National Health Scheme, established dialysis centers in lower district hospitals, established 60 inpatient hospitals. . He also started the Mahavir Jain Hospital in Hajuri in a joint venture with Thane Municipality and an NGO called Jito.

He was appointed Minister of Public Works Department (Public Enterprises) with additional responsibility of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2019. He was sworn in as the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 30 June 2022.

- Eknath Shinde and his 11-year-old son Deepesh and 7-year-old daughter Shubhada visited Satara on June 2, 2000. Both his children died on the spot after drowning in the lake while they were out on a boat.

During the next five years, under the Shinde administration, many huge projects like Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway (Samrudhi Expressway), capacity expansion of Mumbai-Pune Expressway, third bridge over Gulf of Thane at Vashi, Bandra-Versova sea link, six-laning and concreting of roads, 27 railways. Advanced routes of ar Sea-Link and Gaymukh-Fountain Hotel-Ghodbundar have been achieved.
- In 2013, at least 177 Shiv Sena leaders, including Eknath Shinde, protested against Bakrid at the Durgad Fort, where Muslims were allowed to offer namaz. The protest demanded that the Hindus in the fort performed their rituals for so many years and the permission of Namaz on Bakrid stopped the worship of Hindus. During the protests, Eknath Shinde was arrested along with 177 other leaders for protesting against permission for namaz.

- On 21 June 2022, Eknath Shinde was expelled from Shiv Sena. Soon after being sacked from the party, Shinde tweeted that he was a staunch Shiv Sainik of Balash and never lied to anyone out of greed for power. he wrote
We are staunch Shiv Sainiks of Balasahs. The Balasahs taught us Hindutva. We are going to learn from Balasaheb’s thoughts and Dharamveer Anand Dhihe Saheb’s thoughts and we have never cheated for power and never will.”
