During an interview, talking about getting the role, Ahmed said that when he heard that Aamir Khan was looking for a child actor for the film, he auditioned and was selected. He also shared that he did a lot of training and acting workshops to play the role of a disabled Sikh boy before the shooting of the film. She said,
Before the shoot, I trained for 3-4 months in Punjabi and other skills as I am playing the role of a physically challenged boy. Later we shot for 6-7 months in Delhi, Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Srinagar etc. During the shooting, I usually wake up at 3 am and start preparing for my character and come back to the set late. There is no alternative to hard work and dedication. I hope people appreciate my acting in the film.”

In 2022, in an interview, he said that he had completed shooting for the South Indian film Kushi starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda. She said,
I have now finished shooting Kushi in Hyderabad and I am happy to have landed prominent roles in two more big films after The Notebook. I also acted in the short film Yumerzal and some commercials. Now I aim to continue acting and be among the best actors in the future.”

In 2022, as soon as the trailer of the movie “Laal Singh Chaddha” was released, netizens started a #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha trend on social media. Netizens claimed that the film was an exact copy of the Hollywood film “Forrest Gump” (1994) starring Tom Hanks. However, through a tweet, Forrest Gump’s official Twitter account clarified that the film was an official remake of “Forrest Gump”.

The boycott was also linked to Aamir Khan’s meeting with Turkish First Lady Emin Erdogan in 2020. People also criticized Aamir Khan for hurting people’s religious sentiments in the Hindi film PK (2014). Later, one netizen wrote,
Aamir said in the film that it is better to feed the poor with milk than to offer it in temples, so we would rather donate Rs 200 than watch Laal Singh Chadha in theatres.”

Apart from Aamir Khan, the film’s lead actor Kareena Kapoor was also criticized for one of her statements in 2020 in which she said:

- When he was 4 years old, he started auditioning for various acting projects. At first he could not clear the auditions, but he tried.
- During the interview, Ahmad’s father shared how Ahmad got interested in acting. She said,
No one in our family knows anything about acting, but Ahmed’s ‘mamu’ named Ibne Sahib is associated with Kashmiri producers. And since Ahmad had the looks and was interested in acting, he (Sahib) took him to auditions and the rest is history. Ahmad also prays and recites the Quran and apart from acting, he wants to be a footballer. I will support him in all his endeavours.”
- According to some media sources, Shinda Grewal, who is the son of Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal, was the first choice to play the role of young Laal in the 2022 Hindi film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. However, Shinda turned down the offer when he was asked to cut his hair for the film because Shinda is a Sikh and cutting hair is pious in Sikhism.
