Facts/Trivia

  • Abrar is known to his friends as Harry Potter because he looks like him when he wears glasses.
  • He learned cricket by playing in the streets. He joined the Rashid Latif Cricket Academy at the age of 15. In an interview, his coach at the academy, Muhammad Masroor, spoke about his performance in the trial and said:

Same catch as ball, leg spin, googly, slider saare variations and raha tha (he bowled all variations with the same hand). It doesn’t have that massive turn. He was bowling on the stumps and no one could read his length. I immediately asked if he had ever played with a hard ball. The answer was “no”. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Out of curiosity, I checked his fingers and they looked like iron rods.”

  • In an interview, his brother said that during the 1992 Test match at Mulan, when Virender Sehwag scored a triple hundred off the bowling of Saqlain Mushtaq, Abrar noticed Saqlain’s mistakes in the Test match. His brother spoke about it in an interview and said:

Abrar was around six and was marking errors in Saklain Bhai’s bowling. My father was so annoyed by her running comments that he locked her in another room.”

  • When he was little, he had a great relationship with his mother. At the age of nine, his mother asked him to do hifz (memorizing the Qur’an) and he memorized it. According to his brother, his mother wanted him to pursue Aalima (the study of Islamic sciences), but he refused, saying he wanted to play cricket.
  • In 2017, he got injured during the Pakistan Super League. In an interview, his brother said that Abrar was so injured that doctors said he would be paralyzed and would never be able to play cricket again.
