Tim David is an Australian cricketer of Singaporean descent. He plays for the Australian national cricket team mainly as a middle order batsman. Before that, David represented the Singapore national cricket team for about a year.

Tim David, also known as Timothy Hayes David, was born on Saturday 16 March 1996 (age 27 years; as of 2023) in Singapore. His zodiac sign is Pisces. His family originates from Australia, from where his father moved to Singapore in the 1990s to work as an engineer. When Tim was two, his parents returned to Australia in the wake of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Tim grew up in Perth, Australia. He studied at the Scottish College, Melbourne. Watching him play cricket for the Singapore national cricket team ignited his passion for cricket. At the age of three, he accompanied his father to Cresswell Park and Belvista Oval, where his father went on to play fourth-grade cricket for the Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club (CNCC). In addition, his father also managed the local MILO Have-A-Go youth cricket program. In an interview, Tim said:

This is my earliest memory: I was at Cresswell Park and Belvista Oval, which is our second venue, from the age of three.

At the age of 8, David started playing for the Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club (CNCC) under-10 team. He progressed through the age system alongside Joel Paris, Matt Kelly, Will Bosisto and Durham opener Cameron Steele. While many of his contemporaries started playing first-class cricket at a young age, David continued to play second-class cricket at CNCC for many years.

Cricket

Domestic

He was offered a state contract by Western Australia for 2018-19. However, he never made the cut as a senior player. After being rejected, Tim played white-ball cricket in Singapore. He also played for Western Australia Under 23 and Western Australia XI.

International

T20

Tim joined the Singapore Cricket Team training squad in July 2019. A few days later, he was named in Singapore’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the regional finals of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Asian Qualifiers. On 22 July 2019, he made his T20 International debut in Singapore against Qatar playing in Singapore. In his debut match, Tim scored 38 runs off 29 balls, hitting 1 six and 3 fours; Singapore beat Qatar by 33 runs in the match. Tim was named in the Singapore squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers in October 2019. The tournament was held in the United Arab Emirates. The International Cricket Council (ICC) named him as the player to watch in the Singapore team ahead of the tournament. He has represented Singapore 14 times at T20 level.

After playing for the Singapore national cricket team for about a year, Tim David became part of the Australian national cricket team for the 2022 World Cup. In the same year, he was also selected in the Australian squad for their series against India. Tim made his T20 International debut for Australia on 20 September 2022, playing against India at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali), Punjab. In the third match of the series in Hyderabad, Telangana, Tim smashed 54 runs off 27 balls.

On 17 September, he played his debut match for the List A Singapore team against Qatar in the Cricket World Cup Challenge League A tournament. Big Bash League

On 1 January 2018, Tim David made his T20 debut for the Perth Scorchers against the Sydney Sixers in the 2017–18 Big Bash League (BBL) season. Despite signing a Big Bash contract with the Perth Scorchers, Tim initially struggled to play regular matches for the franchise.

He was bought by the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2020-21 Big Bash League season. In the opening match against the Sydney Sixers, Tim scored 58 runs to lead his team to victory; David was named the best player of the match. After his BBL contract with the Hobart Hurricanes expired, David signed a franchise extension in February 2022.

Royal London One Day Cup

In July 2021, Tim David played for Surrey against Warwickshire in the 2021 Royal London One Day Cup where he scored his first century in all-time cricket with an unbeaten 140 runs. In the quarter-finals of the tournament, Tim scored 102 runs to help Surrey beat Gloucestershire by five wickets. He hit 20 sixes (maximum) in the tournament.

Indian Premier League

In 2021, Tim David was bought by Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore for his base price of Rs. 20 GEL. He played for RCB during the second phase of IPL 2021 in UAE as a replacement for New Zealand opening batsman Finn Allen. On 24 September 2021, Tim played his debut IPL match for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Chennai Super Kings, becoming the first international player from Singapore to play in the IPL.

In 2022, during the Indian Premier League auctions, Tim was signed by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 8.25 million. On 30 April 2023, during the 42nd match of the 2023 IPL season, Tim smashed an unbeaten 45 off 14 balls, hitting three back-to-back sixes in the final over to lead Mumbai Indians to a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Thiem said:

I was so hungry to finish a game like this. It’s an amazing feeling. The boys are excited. The other guys were making big plays, so I waited my turn. So I’m really satisfied. “

David scored over 300 runs at a staggering strike rate of 189.56 in his short 17 match IPL career.
