Hugh Weibgen started playing cricket for the Valley’s team when he was under 8 years old. He worked his way up, playing for the younger and then the older teams until he reached the top team, the Men’s 1st Grade. Along the way, Hugh also played in Queensland’s cricket leagues and earned a beginner’s contract with the QLD Bulls team. On 22 January 2024, in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Weibgen scored 39 runs and was not out after facing 43 balls in the game against Namibia. On 31 January 2024, during the Super Six matches of the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, Weibgen played well against England. He scored a hundred runs, which helped Australia start the Super Six round on a strong note. On 8 February 2024, the Australian team won a very close game against Pakistan in the semifinals of the Under-19 World Cup.
