Abhijit Mukherjee is an Indian politician who is part of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). He is the son of the late President of India, Pranab Mukherjee.

Abhijit Mukherjee was born on Saturday 2 January 1960 (age 61; as of 2021) in Hooghly, West Bengal. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. After graduation, Abhijit attended Jadavpur University, Kolkata, where he received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984. He then completed his engineering degree from the Institute of Engineers, Kolkata. After graduation, he started working in the corporate field.

Career
Abhijit Mukherjee was born into a family with a history in politics. His grandfather, Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee, was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Council as a representative of the Indian National Congress from 1952 to 1964 and an active member of the Indian independence movement. However, in the early years, Abhijit Mukherjee went for a corporate job and worked for companies like Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Steel Authority of Indian Limited and Maruti Udyog Limited. After working in the corporate sector for over twenty years, Abhijit decided to switch careers and join politics. In 2012, Pranab Mukherjee was appointed as the President of India and Abhijit Mukherjee contested from the Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency. He won the by-election by a margin of 2536 votes defeating his rival from CPI(M) Muzaffar Hussain. In 2014, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha from the Jangipur seat. However, in 2019, he lost the election to TMC candidate Khalilur Rahman. On 5 July 2021, Abhijit left the Indian National Congress and joined the Indian Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Confrontation
In 2012, when the entire country protested against the accused in the Nirbhaya gang-rape case, people took to the streets to demand justice. Abhijit Mukherjee sparked controversy when he made an insensitive remark about women attending protest sites during an interview. She said-
I call the protests in Delhi popularly known as the Pink Revolution. It is becoming fashionable to walk the streets with a candle in hand. Such people are completely detached from reality. They go to discos. I’m very familiar with student activism and I can bet most of the protesters are not students. They are tired and painted women, chasing their two minutes of fame, giving interviews on television. The participants of the action do not belong to the age group of students.”
Abhijit’s statement sparked outrage in the media, with several people calling him out for his insensitive behavior towards the victims and the protesters.

- Abhijit Mukherjee received the degree of Doctor of Science (Honorary) from DY Patil University, Pune in June 2015.
- For the past 120 years, the Mukherjee family has been going to their ancestral home in Meerut, where they perform Durga Puja rituals and make arti. This tradition was started by Abhijit’s great-grandfather, Tarak Nath Mukherjee, and has since been passed down through his generations.
