K. Kavita is an Indian politician serving as a member of the Nizamabad Legislative Council since 2020. He is also a member of Bharat Rashtra Samithi. She is famous for being the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Kalvakuntla Kavita was born on Monday 13 March 1978 (age 46; as of 2023) in Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). She did her schooling at Stanley Girls High School, Hyderabad. He pursued B.Tech in CSE from VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad and Masters in Science from University of Southern Mississippi.

Career

In 2003, she moved to the USA with her husband and worked there as a software engineer. In 2006, he returned to India to work with the people of Telangana. In 2006, when her father resigned from the Union Cabinet because he was upset with the central government for not fulfilling its promise to help build Telangana, she joined him in the movement. He visited most of the remote villages of Telangana to understand the problems of the people. He learned about the extent of poverty, lack of basic necessities like electricity, drinking and irrigation water and unemployment. He also learned that the people of Telangana had great love and enthusiasm for indigenous art and culture, so he thought that by celebrating festivals he would be able to connect all sections of the society. He celebrated the Bathukamma festival on a grand scale in which people from different sections participated together. Today, Bathukama is celebrated in more than 30 countries. He decided to work for the welfare of the people in the state and formed the Telangana Jagruthi Party in August 2006.

Telangana Jagruthi was formed in 2006 but registered in November 2007. In an interview, she explained the meaning of her party’s name, saying that the meaning of Jagruthi is awakening, which focuses on awakening the community of Telangana to be proud of their state and remain united, and the word Jagruthi is women and the union of Telanath. The party has been instrumental in garnering the support of women and youth for a peaceful and non-violent Telangana movement. He set up Telangana Jagruthi Skill Centers to train the youth in Telangana and help them find employment. These centers train around 8500 students in Telangana and help them in placement.

In 2014, after Telangana was formed, he contested the general election from Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency and won with a majority of 1,64,184 votes. In 2019, he contested the 2019 general election to Parliament from Nizamabad but lost to Arvind Dharmapuri by 70,875 votes. In October 2020, he was elected as a member of the Legislative Council from Nizamabad Local Government Constituency. He won 727 out of 823 votes. In 2021, he was re-elected from Nizamabad Local Government Constituency in a biennial election to the Telangana Legislative Council. He was sworn in as MLC on January 19, 2022. In 2015, he was a member of the Committee on Estimates, Standing Committee on Commerce as well as the Advisory Committee, Ministry of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation. She was also nominated to the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) India Region Steering Committee, which works to bring more women representatives to Parliament.

questioned by the CBI in the Delhi liquor policy case

On 7 February 2023, former Kavita auditor Buchi Babu was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. According to the CBI, he was not cooperating with the agency and his answers were questionable. In December 2022, Kavita was also questioned in the same case. The ED said Kavita was part of a “southern cartel” that was causing irregularities by altering Delhi’s excise policy. The group included Telangana ruling Kavita Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Magunta Srinivasalu Reddy, MP from Andhra Pradesh ruling YSR Congress and Sarath Reddy from Aurobindo Pharma.   • He is the Honorary President of Telangana Rashtra Vidyut Karmika Sangham (TRVKS), which is the union of electricity workers and Telangana Anganwadi Workers and Auxiliary Association (TAWHA), for Anganwadi workers.
  • He was elected as the first state chief commissioner of the Telangana chapter of the Bharat Scouts and Guides Association (BS&G), making him the youngest person to hold the post in the country. She also became the second female State Chief Commissioner in India.

  • In December 2022, the Enforcement Directorate accused him of owning 65% stake in liquor company Indo Spirits, which is involved in the liquor scam in Delhi.
  • On 6 February 2023, he asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the issue of falling share prices of the Adani Group and set up a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the matter. He also criticized Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement in which she said that the Adani issue will not affect the economy. In a statement he said,

    Today we are facing a huge crisis in the country. It can really be called a crisis, because the decline in Adani Group’s shares and the company’s value will affect the country’s economy. From January 23 till date, the value of shares of SBI and LIC, which have invested in Adan Group, has fallen sharply. A common man suffered heavy losses. The value of Adani shares on January 23 was 3436 GEL. Now the value of the group’s shares fell to 1483 GEL on February 6.
