Career

After graduating from IIT, Arunabh Kumar started his career as a research assistant in the US Air Force at IIT Bombay in 2006. He did not like the job and left it. In an interview, he was asked why he left this job and he answered:

I think IIT is when I actually started getting this thing, that there is something called movies, making movies… and I started enjoying it. It would be the place where I discovered my desire and interest in it. So you could say that IIT is the time when I discovered that okay, this is an interesting field and I might want to do it. Then I also did a few internships, but I realized that it allows us to take a job. I got into the US Air Force because I got into this subject called image processing, but I left it after only six months.

After leaving his engineering job, Arunabh joined Red Chillies Entertainment as an Assistant Director in 2017. There, her job responsibilities included everything from running errands to taking notes and doing all the errands and offsets.

He was also an assistant director on Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om starring Shah Rukh Khan. After that project, he had trouble finding a steady job that paid the bills. He tried his best to start a career in cinema, but it ended after a three-year struggle. So he started making small AV and corporate films for builders and ad agencies. This bought him a steady stream of income, but he tried his luck again in filmmaking. He thought about starting his own TV show, The Engineer’s Diary, and sent a proposal to MTV. The channel rejected the offer. Because of this rejection, he thought of entering the Internet through YouTube. He once spoke about this rejection and how he started creating his own TV shows. She said,

TVF didn’t really start with this rejection. TVF Media Labs was a company I started to produce branded content and it was set up pretty early on. It started in 2010-11. Then only when I had enough money to support myself, I thought of doing my own TV show. So it is a misconception that I started TVF because the show was rejected. I had TVF and had enough money. Actually, TVF isn’t really a YouTube network, it’s a mother ship that I started. A year and a half later, when I had enough money, that’s when we intended to do a TV show, which was rejected. And then I thought maybe I should try and do my show online. This is how the TVF online network came into existence.

In 2019, he also co-founded Indusverse with Alok Sharma and Saumin Patel and serves as its CEO. This venture is dedicated to producing comics that address contemporary issues in society.
