Controversies
Wrote An Open Letter On Rape
On 11 December 2014, Shenaz wrote an open letter addressing various public figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Anil Ambani. The letter was in response to a rape case that had occurred in an Uber cab in Delhi. In the letter, Shenaz asked the public figure to take strict actions against sexual offenders. Although the letter followed good intentions, people associated it with a PR stunt, as her film, ‘Main aur Mr. Riight,’ was about to be released. In the letter, she asked men to provide better security to women. This view was also criticised as it takes away the autonomy of women and makes them dependent on men.
