In 1983, he started acting in theater productions in Gujarat. For almost four years, he played in more than 600 theater productions. In 1987, he directed his first Gujarati theater production titled ‘Aandhalo Pata’, which became a huge hit with the audience. Then he started writing theater plays. His other popular Gujarati theater production is ‘Action Replayy’ which he directed in 1994.

#MeToo allegations
In 2021, amidst the controversy of the #MeToo movement in India, Bollywood actress Elnaz Nooruzi accused Vipul of asking her for sexual favors while she was auditioning for the Hindi film Namaste England. Speaking about this in an interview, Elnaz said:
I met him in his office and he told me that we will sign the documents in the next few days. This time, when we said goodbye, he came to me. It was too close for comfort. I couldn’t get the right mood. He slapped my face. I did not expect. The next time we met in his office, he tried to kiss me. I pulled back and said, “What are you doing? We are in your office!’ I parted from him, I was affirmative; But careful enough not to come off as rude because I really wanted the film.”
He also shared that Vipul asked him to meet him in his hotel room to discuss the script of Namaste England. She said that when she reached her room, Vipul touched her buttock and tried to get close to her. In an interview, he said that he did not file a police complaint against him because he was not an Indian citizen and thought that a police complaint would cause problems for his work visa. Later, after being questioned by the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Committee, the Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA) gave Vipul a clean chit as Elnaaz did not cooperate with the committee in providing relevant information to support her allegations.
