He did his schooling at Patna College School, Patna. He then completed his graduation in Law and Psychology from Bihar National College, Patna, Bihar. From 1968 to 1989, he received his Masters and Fellowship in Dramatic Arts from the National School of Drama, New Delhi. In 1973, he joined the Indian theater group, People’s Theater Association of India, Patna.

While in college, his brother’s friends asked him to accompany him to a theater play in Satish Anand’s theater group. From there, the interest in theatrical games began to develop. He then performed in various stage plays and nukkad plays.
