Dharmani worked as a secretary of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee. He was selected as the vice president of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress, AICC secretary. He worked as a Convener of Technical Cell NSUI. In 2007, he was elected to the State Legislative Assembly in Estimates & Human Development Committees. In 2012, he was re-elected to the State Legislative Assembly as Chief Parliamentary Secretary. In 2022, he was re-elected to the State Legislative Assembly and was nominated as the Chairman of the Human Development Committee and a member of the Public Accounts & e-Governance-cum-General Purposes Committees.
