Om Raut is an Indian film director, screenwriter and producer. He is best known for directing the 2020 blockbuster Tanhaji, for which he won the Best Popular Film award at the 68th National Film Awards. He is the director of the 2015 film Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush, which won many awards and accolades. In 2022, Om Raut courted controversy when his Hindu mythology film Adipurush was released in the media. The film was an adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana and was accused of manipulating the original characters. Indian actor Prabhas played the role of Lord Rama in the film.

Om Raut was born on Tuesday, 21 December 1981 (age 41; as of 2022) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He completed his schooling from Balmohan Vidyamandir, Mumbai, India. A child artist
Om Raut started his career in the Bollywood film industry as a child artist. As a child, he appeared in many theater productions and commercials. He made his film debut in 1993 with the film Karamati Coat, in which he appeared as a child artist, Raghu, playing the lead role. According to reports, Om Raut’s mother, Neena Raut, introduced him to the world of entertainment and cinema at a young age.

In 2022, Om Raut courted controversy when a case was registered against him in the Delhi High Court over actor Saif Ali Khan’s appearance in Adipurush, in which Saif portrayed Ravana. In October 2022, his mythological drama Adipurush was accused of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. It was claimed that Hindu deities were misrepresented in the film’s promotional video in an “unjustified” and “inaccurate” manner. Soon after the allegations, Om Raut stated in a media conference that all the allegations against him were baseless and the makers of the film had presented Ravana’s appearance in relation to the present time. Om Raut said,
Our Ravan today is demonic, cruel. He who kidnapped our goddess Sita is cruel. We have shown how Raavan looks in the present day. This is not a film or a project for us, but a mission. Our film is a symbol of our commitment and we need everyone’s blessings for this.”
Om Raut added in the same discussion that the film is just a translation of the books on celluloid. Om quoted,
I don’t want anyone to misunderstand that we have changed. It is a translation from books to celluloid. So this is not a movie for us. It is our bhakti, shraddha (devotion and faith) and what we stand for.
