Beginning of his career

Ramsay worked as a commis chef at the Worxton House Hotel in the mid-1980s. Later, Ramsay moved to London and worked in several restaurants before joining Marco Pierre White at Harveys, Wandsworth, London.

He then went to study French cuisine under Albert Roux at Le Gavroche in Mayfair. Then he moved to Paris to work with both the Michelin-starred chefs Guy Savoy and Joel Robuchon. He continued to work in France for three years before taking a job as a personal chef on a private yacht in Bermuda. He got an exposure to Italian cuisine while travelling.

In 1933, Ramsay returned to London to work as a head chef under Pierre Koffmann at La Tante Clarie, Chelsea.

After that, he went to work with Marco Pierre White at his restaurant Roosemore which was renamed as Aubergine. Ramsay was offered a 10% share of the business. Gordon Ramsay owns the company known as Gordon Ramsay Holdings Limited (1997) as Director. The restaurants, gastropubs, media, and consultancy are held under this company. Apart from owning one of the largest restaurant groups in the UK known as Gordon Ramsay Restaurant, he owns several other restaurants across the globe. Some of the restaurants and bars that are under the Gordon Ramsay Restaurant are known as Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill, Gordon Ramsay Steak, and Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen. Philanthropy

In 2005, Ramsay organised the Gordon Ramsay “Buy a Brick” appeal to help the Scottish Spina Bifida Association raise funds for the new Family Support Centre and Head Office in Glasglow. In 2006, he helped the same association raise funds to run the support centre. In 2007, he helped the association by hosting a St Andrew’s Day Gala Dinner at Stirling Castle which later became an annual event.

In 2005, Ramsay and Indian chef Madhur Jaffrey teamed up to help the international development charity group, VSO for its event known as Spice Up Your Life. For VSO’s work in HIV and AIDS, the charity’s goal was to raise £100,000. In 2005, Ramsay and his wife became the first couple, who were the ambassadors of the charity group Women’s Aid. To support Women’s Aid, they ran the Flora Families marathon.

Ramsay’s resignation at Aubergine

Ramsay resigned from the Aubergine restaurant owned by A-Z Restaurants in 1998. After that, A-Z Restaurants sued him for 1 million pounds for breaking the contract and loss of revenue in court. Later the matter was settled outside the court.

Fake News about Ramsay’s TV show

In 2006, a London newspaper company known as the London Evening Standard reported that the TV show Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares had shown fake scenes of the Bonaparte’s restaurant, Silsden, West Yorkshire. They claimed the condition of the restaurant shown in the show was fake and was not hazardous to health. This case was taken to the High Court by Gordon Ramsay and his team where it was proved that the information written by the newspaper company was untrue and the company had to pay a price of 75,000 pounds for damages.

False Claim Acquisition on Ramsay’s TV show

In 2007, Ramsay’s show Kitchen Nightmares was accused by the ex-manager of the New York restaurant Purnima (Dillon’s) of setting up fake problems in the restaurants. He claimed that the problems were created by Ramsay and his team in the restaurants so that the show could portray Ramsay as if he were improving the restaurants. Later the case was dismissed and both the parties handled the case outside the court without making an issue further.

Fault in Ramsay’s food quality

According to sources in 2009, Foxtrot Oscar, London, Chelsea area, one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants sold pre-prepared meals to its customers. It was revealed that the other three gastropubs of Ramsay used the same process to deliver food to the customers. Later one of the official members of Ramsay’s team clarified that this is a standard procedure that the restaurants follow to increase their supply as the restaurants have limited space to prepare food. The food’s quality is unaffected. In 2010 Ramsay told the media that it was a standard practice and there was nothing to worry about.

Ramsay filed a case against his Restaurant partner

In 2012, Ramsay had to file a case against his former restaurant Laurier partners for defamation and lost licensing fees. Ramsay demanded a price of 2.7 million dollars from the partners for the loss.

Ramsay lost the case against his father-in-law

In 2015, Ramsay lost the case against his father-in-law Christopher Hutcheson for the York & Albany pub. Ramsay claimed that his father-in-law had misused the “ghostwriting” machine to forge his signature on the 25-year-old agreement that was shown in the court. The agreement claims that Ramsay is the personal guarantor for the 640,000 pounds annual rent of the York & Albany pub. Ramsay had to pay a total of 1 million pounds after losing the case.

Ramsay’s eight-year-long legal battle

In 2022, Ramsay won the case against his former business partner Rowan Seibel at The Fat Cow Gordon Ramsay restaurant in Los Angeles. The eight-year-long case was ended after the court passed a judgement to pay Gordon Ramsay 3.6 million pounds for the damages and court fee.

Ramsay’s inappropriate statement

In 2022, Ramsay in an interview with BBC Radio 2 said that he loves Cornwall but doesn’t like Cornish people. This statement was found inappropriate by Clir D. Cole the leader of the political party and asked for an apology from Ramsay. Later a member of Ramsay’s team said that Gordon had made such sarcastic comments several times.
