Film
Dinesh Phadnis appeared in the Marathi film ‘Bharla Ha Malavat Raktan’ in 1993. He made his Bollywood debut with the Aamir Khan starrer film ‘Sarfarosh’ (1999) in which he played the role of a SI Crime Branch.

In 2000, he made a cameo appearance  in the song ‘Mela Dilon Ka’ in the film ‘Mela.’ He appeared as an officer in the film ‘Officer’ in 2001. He has also appeared in the film ‘Super 30,’ starring Hrithik Roshan. In addition to working as an actor, he has also worked as a scriptwriter for a Marathi film and a few Hindi films.

In 1993, Dinesh Phadnis essayed the role of a police inspector in the Hindi TV series ‘Fasale.’

He worked for almost 20 years (1998-2018) in the TV show ‘CID’ in which he played the role of Inspector Fredericks. The TV show was broadcast on the channel Sony Entertainment Television. He has also co-wrote some episodes of the TV show along with Sriram Raghavan (director of the film ‘Agent Vinod’).

He appeared in some episodes of the horror TV series ‘Aahat’ in 2006. The TV series was broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television. He made a guest appearance in the courtroom drama TV series ‘Adaalat’ (2012), which aired on Sony Entertainment Television. He also appeared as a guest in the Hindi sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ (2014), which aired on SAB TV. In 2019, he appeared as Constable Shambhu Tawde in the TV series ‘CIF.’ The TV series was broadcast on the channel Dangal TV.

- On 4 December 2023, Dinesh Phadnis was admitted to Tunga Hospital in Mumbai, where he was on a ventilator. According to some reports, he suffered a heart attack. However, Dayanand Shetty (his co-star in CID) denied the rumours of Dinesh Phadnis suffering a heart attack and revealed that he was on a ventilator and undergoing treatment.
