Political career
Brajesh Pathak began his political career while still in college at Lucknow University in Uttar Pradesh, where he studied for a Bachelor of Laws. He contested and won the student political elections in 1990 and was named as the President of Lucknow University as a result. In 2004, he became a Member of Parliament of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). In 2004, he was elected to the BSP Lok Sabha from Unao. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2008 as a BSP candidate and served as the party’s deputy leader in the upper house. He later resigned as a member of the organization in 2009. His time in the Rajya Sabha ended in 2014 and in August 2016 Braje joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other prominent party members. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BSP) has been trying to expand its base ahead of the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections after losing the 2012 assembly elections and seeing its vote base erode. In 2017, he contested for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly as a BJP candidate from the Lucknow Central constituency, defeating his main rival from the Samajwadi Party, Ravidas Mehrotra, by 39,512 votes. He was initially appointed as the Cabinet Minister for Law and Justice in 2017, but with the expansion of Yogi Adityanath’s ministry, he was promoted to the post of Minister of Law and Justice in 2019. Brajesh Pathak, who represents the state’s major Brahmin population, was sworn in as one of the candidates from the northern state on 25 March 25. The ceremony was meticulously planned. Thousands of people thronged the Ekana Stadium for the swearing-in ceremony of the Yogi 2.0 administration.
