V Prashant Madal is an Indian Civil Servant of the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) who is the Deputy Chief Accountant of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) (as on 2023). He is the son of BJP MLA Maadal Virupakshappa. In March 2023, he was arrested by the Karnataka Lokayukta following a raid on the office of state-owned Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), where he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting bribes. 40 lakhs for allotment of tender for supply of raw material to Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited.

Prashant Madali, also spelled as Prashant Madali, was born on August 9 in Chanagiri, Davanager, Karnataka. His zodiac sign is Leo. He attended Bangalore University of Agricultural Sciences to complete his graduation. After clearing the examination conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), Madali became a Karnataka Administrative Service Officer in the 2008 batch.

Prashant Madal’s father, Madal Virupakshapa, is an MLA from Chanagiri in Karnataka’s Davanager district. Virupakshappa, who previously served as the Chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) (the company that manufactures the popular Mysore Sandal Soap), resigned on 3 March 2023 after his son was arrested by the Karnataka Lokayukta on charges of Rs.40. Ed. On his resignation, Virupakshapa wrote a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bomai in which he stated,
There is some conspiracy against my family. With moral responsibility, I announce my resignation, because there is an accusation against me.”

Career
After graduation, Prashant started working at Bangalore University of Agricultural Sciences. He worked there for a while and then resigned. Prashant started working with the Karnataka government in June 2012. Soon he started working as Deputy Accounts Officer of Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KIRDL).
Since 2023, he has been working as Chief Accountant in Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board won the International Award 2019 “Gold Award for Quality and Business Prestige” at the Quality Summit held in Rome, Italy, which was received by the Board’s Financial Advisor, Chief Accountant Prashant Mandal.
Prashanth also works as Joint Controller KSAD in Ministry of Finance, Government of Karnataka.

Accused in embezzlement case
In 2017, while Prashanth was working as deputy accountant of Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KIRDL), the bank faced financial irregularities of Rs 55 crore. An FIR was registered at the Surathkal police station in October against Prashanth, then KRIDL CFO Veeranaguda Patil and then financial superintendent Shankarachar for misappropriation of funds. According to officials, Prashanth was responsible for selecting the banks where the deposits should be placed and norms were violated while selecting the bank branch in Mangaluru. Apparently, on August 23, 2023, Rs. 20 crores was deposited in Kulai branch of Indian Overseas Bank. A week later, an additional deposit of 35 million GEL was made in the bank. According to a senior official, “those involved opened a current account immediately after the money was transferred. A fake certificate of deposit was sent to the government and the entire amount was gone within days.” Following the FIR, Prashant, Patil and Shankarachar were suspended and the case was handed over to the CBI for further investigation.
Accused of corruption
In March 2023, Prashant Madali was arrested by the Karnataka Lokautka after he was allegedly caught accepting bribes on behalf of his father. Apparently, Prashant demanded a bribe. 80 lakhs from a contractor for procurement of raw materials required for the production of soap and other detergents for Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL). Meanwhile, a man filed a complaint with the Karnataka Lokautka alleging that Madali was taking bribe. After receiving the complaint, the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru) and his team laid a trap and caught Prashant accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh at his father’s office on Crescent Road.
During the raid, Lokayukta Rs. from his father’s office and about 1.7 crores of unaccounted cash. 2.2 crores was recovered from Prashant’s office. Soon Prashant was arrested by the Karnataka Lokayukta. Later, the Lokayukta raided Prashanth’s residence and recovered Rs. 6.10 crores of unaccounted cash from there.
