Career

He began his career as a chef de partie (station chef) at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces in Mumbai.

He then worked as a sous-chef at the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai. Later, she moved to New York and began working as a chef de partie at Beech & Bamboo in New York. In 1997, she collaborated with restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group and opened a restaurant, ‘Table’ in New York. In 2010, the restaurant closed; as it failed to attract more customers.

In 2011, he participated as a contestant on ‘Top Chef Masters’ Season 3 and stood out as the winner of the show. In 2012, she partnered with Mayer and opened a ‘North End Grill’ restaurant in New York. It was one of the most popular eating spots in Manhattan, New York, and after almost six years the restaurant closed. He was a co-founder of the hospitality company, ‘Hunger Inc.’ along with Sameer Seth and Thomas Zacharias. In 2016, he opened the famous ‘Paowalla’ restaurant, which was later renamed ‘Bombay Bread Bar’. He had opened his own restaurants in Mumbai called ‘The Bombay Canteen’, ‘Bombay Sweet Shop’ and ‘O Pedro’.

Death

On March 8, 2020, he traveled to New York from Mumbai via Frankfurt Airport. After landing in New York, she began to feel a fever, later, she was diagnosed with COVID-19. He was hospitalized at Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair, New Jersey. After suffering from COVID-19 for more than 15 days, he passed away on March 25, 2020.
