She is an 86 year old widow of M. Karunanidhi. Born in the year 1936 in Tamil Nadu, India.
She is a business woman. She was only 12 years old when she married M. Karunanidhi.

The couple was blessed with four children. She has 3 sons: MK Alagiri (Politician), MK Stalin (Politician), MK Tamilarasu (Producer) and a daughter: Selvi Geetha Kovilam.
In the 1960s, her happy married life was turned upside down when Karunanidhi married Rajathi Ammal in a secret ceremony. Although it was considered as an illegal marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955.
Dayalu is the stepmother of MK Muthu (stepson, with Padmavathy) and Kanimozhi (stepdaughter, with Rajathi, politician).
His son MK Stalin became M. Karunanidhi’s political successor after the 2016 assembly elections.
Controversy
- In 2015, Dayalu and 18 others, including DMK MP Kanimozhi and former Telecom Minister A Raja, faced trial in the case where the Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleged that the promoters of Swan Telecom Pvt Ltd (STPL) sent an illegal gratuity of Rs 200 crore to Kalaignar TV indirectly. Her doctor stated that the possibility of her involvement in the money laundering case was impossible as she has been suffering from Alzheimer’s and has been unwell for many years. In the year 2017, all the defendants along with Dayalu were cleared of the money laundering case by a special CBI court.
