The Ernakulam Central Police filed a case against Vidya on the petition filed by the Maharaja College authorities where Vidya had been using forged experience papers, claiming that she had worked as a contract assistant teacher at the college from June 2018 to March 2019 and from June 2020 to March 2021.

According to IRF reports, the charges registered are Sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a document or electronic record knowing that it is forged) of the Indian Penal Code.
