Facts/Trivia
- Sita Soren is always in the headlines for her derogatory comments and accusations against her family members including Hemant Soren. In January 2024, Sita Soren led a rift among the MLAs of the ruling coalition party after Hemant Soren was arrested by ED, reportedly the senior MLAs held a meeting in Raanchi, where they wanted to make Hemant Soren’s wife, Kalpana Soren, the next chief minister of Jharkhand; however, despite being an MLA from the party Sita along with a few other MLAs protested by not attending the meeting. In an interview, she talked about the incident and claimed that she was more deserving than Kalpana for the role of chief minister. She said,
I would like to ask why only Kalpana Soren, who is not even an MLA and has no political experience, under what circumstances her (Kalpana’s) is being touted as the next chief minister when there are so many senior leaders in the party. I will strongly protest any move to make her CM. There are several senior leaders in the party, who could be given the rein. If they wanted to elect from a family, I am the senior-most in the house and have been an MLA for around 14 years.”
- In January 2024, after her protests against her own family and party, Sita Soren was named the Aparna Yadav of Jharkhand.
