I used to take my elder daughter (Swati) to Sonnet Cricket Club and Shweta would only accompany me. He insisted on playing with his sister, but I never paid much attention to it because he was so young. A few months later, we shifted Swati to the Cricket Academy in Vasant Kunj. It was a boys’ academy and the coach asked one of them to hit Shweta with a tennis ball. I still remember his first shot, straight to the ground. For a seven-year-old kid who played fearlessly with boys as young as 14, I was shocked. The next day I got him all the kits and his cricketing journey began.
At the age of 12, Shweta appeared in senior women’s trials in Delhi and was selected among the top 30.
