In 1992, Rukhsar Rehman made her debut in the film industry with ‘Yaad Rakhegi Duniya’ starring opposite Aditya Pancholi. She was then 17 years old and in ninth standard.

In the same year, she made an appearance in J.K. Bihari’s film ‘Inteha Pyar Ki’ opposite Rishi Kapoor. Rukhsar Rehman comes from an orthodox Muslim family and her father wasn’t supportive of her working in the film industry, so she moved back to Lucknow. After completing her education, she started her own garment designing work in Lucknow. In 2005, she was offered a role in Ram Gopal Verma’s film, ‘Sarkar.’ She grabbed the role when she heard that she would star alongside Amitabh Bachchan. She made her return to the big screen in 2005, with Ram Gopal Verma’s crime drama, ‘D,’ in which she played the role of Bhakti Bhatnagar, Randeep Hooda’s girlfriend.

In 2020, she starred in her first web series, ‘The Gone Game.’ It is a psychological thriller directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, during the lockdown. It was completely shot at the houses of the respective cast. Rukhsar in an interview said,
I was apprehensive about shooting from home. However, my husband and daughter convinced me to take the plunge. It was a taxing process, but we had a lot of fun.”

Rukhsar Rehman made her television debut with the show Bhaskar Bharti in 2009, where she plays the role of a fitness freak. From 2011-2013, she is seen in a recurring role as Dr Mallika Trehan in the TV show, Kuch toh log Kahenge. In 2013, she appeared on the Life OK channel’s show titled, Tumhari Paakhi.
