At around 16:00 local time, Jessica McLoughlin, 40, was struck by the Sligo to Dublin train and died at the scene.
Rebecca McLoughlin, her niece in her 20s, was transferred to Sligo University Hospital, where she receives non-life-threatening treatment for her wounds.

The two women reportedly strolled near the track when the train pulled up. Witnesses claimed to have heard the train’s horn blow.
After the incident, services between Sligo and Dublin were halted. However, they now operate normally from Thursday.
According to Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail), investigations are currently being conducted by the RAIU, the Garda (Irish police), and themselves.
Investigations into fatalities, major injuries, and significant harm to property, infrastructure, or the environment are the responsibility of the RAIU, an impartial organization.
The train driver and crew were unharmed in the event and are receiving help from Iarnród Éireann’s employee assistance program, according to the company’s communications manager, Jane Cregan, who spoke to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland show.
She continued, “I would thank our emergency services colleagues who handled this event and my colleagues who were there yesterday.

According to a death notice that was published online, Jessica passed away “suddenly, following an accident,” and her parents, Peter and Annie, had predeceased her.
According to the note, she was listed as the “adored mother” of four kids and the “loving sister” of six siblings.
On Sunday from 5 to 7 o’clock, Jessica will lie in state at The Foley and McGowan Funeral Home in Market Yard, Sligo.

On Monday at 11 am, St. Anne’s Church in Sligo will host her funeral, which a burial will follow in the cemetery there.
On Thursday morning, Jessica McLoughlin was the subject of prayers at her neighborhood church, St. Anne’s in Cranmore. Local elected officials have also praised Ms. McLoughlin.
Thomas Healy, a Sinn Féin councilor for Sligo-Drumcliffe, told RTÉ that the accident was a “tragedy for the whole of Sligo” and will live long in people’s memories.
Martin Kenny, TD, praised the emergency services’ prompt response when they arrived on the site.
He urged the neighborhood to come together and assist them, saying the tragedy “will result in a difficult time ahead for the family and friends of those involved.”
