A criminal complaint claims that 22-year-old Joseph Olvera was detained by police officers on March 11 at his apartment in the 500 block of Spruce Street.
According to the complaint, Olvera contacted 911 to report that he had killed and strangled his fiancée; at this point, Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the site.
He declared that he would commit himself and that he had many weapons. They could hear what appeared to be gunshots, according to dispatch.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and the Omro Police Department conducted a welfare check and discovered Johanna’s body in a home on Spruce Street.
The sheriff’s office said that when law enforcement arrived, there was a brief standoff with a 22-year-old male.
The man was later taken into custody. Charges of recklessly endangering safety were referred against the man by the police.
