Javed Khan Amrohi was an Indian film and television actor known for the Hindi films Lagaan: Once Upon a Time India (2001), Andaz Apna Apna (1994) and Chak De! India (2007). He has appeared in more than 150 Bollywood films. He died on 14 February 2023 in Mumbai due to respiratory problems.

Javed Khan Amroh was born on Thursday 24 March 1949 (age 73 at time of death) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He did his graduation from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He started his acting career with many supporting roles. He was also a theater artist and acted in many theater productions in Mumbai.

Javed’s role as a barber in the serial ‘Nukad’ was very popular and became one of the most popular serials on Doordarshan at that time. In 1988, he rose to fame after appearing in Gulzar’s serial Mirza Ghalib, in which he played the role of a fakir.

Javed died on 14 February 2023 at Suriya Nursing Home, a suburb of Mumbai, where he had been undergoing treatment for respiratory problems since 2022. Died due to lung failure. His colleague filmmaker Ramesh Talwar confirmed his death and said:

Javed was suffering from a respiratory disease and was bedridden for the last one year. He was undergoing treatment at Suriya Nursing Home. He died at the hospital around 1:00 PM because both lungs failed.

  • Javed’s last appearance was in Sadak 2 (2020) as Pakiya.
  • After leaving acting, he started training young actors at the People’s Theater Association of India. He has been associated with the organization since 1972 as an actor, director and general secretary.
