Huma was born into a conservative Muslim family. His father Salim Qureshi is a restaurateur and owns the chain of restaurants “Saleem’s” in Delhi. His mother, Amena Qureshi, hails from Kashmir. Huma joined ‘Act 1’, a theater group in Delhi. He was mentored by Indian theater director and acting teacher NK Sharma.

She moved from Delhi to Mumbai in 2008 for a film, Junction, which was never made. He later signed a two-year contract with Hindustan Unilever for television commercials. Her first commercial was for Mobile Phone with Abhishek Bachchan in which she played the role of a reporter. She came into limelight with a mobile phone commercial starring Aamir Khan and shot by Anurag Kashyap in Panchgani.
Later, Huma appeared in various television commercials, including a mobile commercial with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. While shooting for a Samsung mobile commercial, Anurag Kashyap told her that he would cast her in his film. Later, Anurag offered him a three film deal with his company ‘Anurag Kashyap Films’. She made her film debut in 2012 in the film Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1, in which she portrayed the character of Mohsina. His performance was well received by the audience and critics.
Later, she appeared in many superhit Bollywood films like Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012), Ek Thi Daayan (2013), D-Day (2014) and Dedh Ishqiya (2015).

My father felt that too much study had affected my mind. My parents advised me to go abroad and do MBA. But when I told my father that I regretted for the rest of my life that I couldn’t follow my dreams because of him, he got emotional. He brought me to Mumbai the very next day. He said, “If nothing happens in a year, go back to normal life.”
