Aslam Thambi started playing Kabaddi professionally in 2013, and despite the sport being less popular in Sri Lanka than in India, he continued with it, leading the Lankan Lions to the bronze medal at the 2016 Asian Junior Kabaddi Championship in Iran, gaining recognition on the global stage. In 2021, as a vice-captain of the Sri Lankan Kabaddi team, he received the Bangabandhu Cup after winning the Bangabandhu Cup Kabaddi tournaments held in Dhaka.
In March 2023, Aslam Thambi won the ‘Man Of The Match’ title during the Sri Lanka vs Chinese Taipei series during the Bangabandhu Cup 2023, an international Kabaddi tournament held in Bangladesh.
Pro Kabaddi League (PKL)
In 2022, the Bengal Warriors team bought him for Rs. 10 Lakhs. In the tenth season of the Pro Kabaddi League in 2023, Aslam Thambi played as a raider for the Bengal Warriors team, coached by Kasinatha Baskaran.
