Asit Kumarr Modi is an Indian television producer, director and actor. He is the founder of film and television production house Neela Tele Films Private Limited. He is known for being the creator and producer of the popular Hindi sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ (2008). In 2023, Indian TV actress Jennifer Mistry Bansival accused him of sexual harassment.

Career
At the initial stage of his career, he worked as a lighting designer in several theater productions in Gujarat. He has also worked in the production and creative departments of various television serials such as ‘Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh’ (1994; Hindi) for DD Metro and ‘Kondmara’ (1996; Marathi) for DD Marathi. He also headed the production and marketing departments of several Gujarati TV serials like ‘Miyan Fuski’, ‘Parinam’ and ‘Aahwan’. Asit worked as a theater actor, technician and assistant director. In 1995, he established a film and television production house, Neela Film Productions Private Limited, named after his wife, Neela.

Neha Mehta
In 2020, Indian television actress Neha Mehta, who played the role of Anjali Mehta in the Hindi sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (2008), left the show. In an interview, when Neha was asked about quitting the show after almost 12 years on it, she said that her royalties were paid with the producers and they were not paying her fees. He said he even asked Asit to clear the payments. She said,
I acted in Taarak Mehta as Anjali for 12 years before quitting in 2020. The money for the last six months is waiting. After I left the show, I called them several times regarding my pending bills. I don’t like to complain… I hope there will be a solution soon and I will get my hard earned money.”
Later in an interview, an official from Asit’s team said that Asit was upset over Neha’s remark and said that Neha left the show without informing them and stopped answering their calls. The official said that since Neha had not completed the exit formalities, she was not entitled to full and final payment.

Another ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ actor, Shailesh Lodha left the show in 2021 due to payment issues with Asit. He played the role of Tarak Mehta in the sitcom for almost 14 years. She has reportedly filed a complaint against Modi for not paying her taxes. It even initiated a corporate insolvency resolution under Section 9 before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). Later, Lodha uploaded a cryptic post on her Instagram account hinting at a feud with Asit. An official of the Asit team spoke about this in an interview. the official said
There isn’t much to say that hasn’t been said before. Sheilesh Lodha was just like family. When he left, we respected that. And we repeatedly asked him via email and phone to come to the office to sign all the necessary paperwork and pick up the remaining number. We have never refused or refused to pay him. In all companies, when people leave, they must sign full and final paperwork before they are paid in full. where is the issue Rather than go around complaining, isn’t it better to just follow normal procedure? We don’t do any business because we didn’t refuse to pay him. We have already informed Sir (Lodha) to collect his dues and sign the necessary documents. “
Later, in an interview, Asit said that he had never refused Lodha’s payments. Asit said that he was upset because Shailesh was targeting him with his couplets and lyrics at various events. Later, while addressing the media, Shailsh said that no producer can be bigger than an actor.
Accused of sexual harassment
In 2023, Jennifer Mistry Bansival, another actress from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, left the show. He accused Asit and his team of being unfair to him. He even accused Asit and his team members Sohil Raman and Jatin Bajaj of sexual harassment. In an interview, talking about this, Jennifer said that when she asked for leave from the creators, they asked her to leave the filming of the show. He said that the makers have been unfair to him several times in the past. He also spoke about the sexual harassment he faced on the set. He revealed that Asit once made a vulgar comment on him. According to Jennifer, Asit said,
Aj toh anniversary nahi hai. Koi crime nahi hai, aa jao room mein. The next day he says aap bohot sundar lag rahi ho, tumhare hot bohot sundar hai, mani kar raha hai pakadh ke kiss kardu”.
In an interview, when Asit was asked about the allegations, he said:
We are taking legal action because he is trying to defame me and the show. He has been making these baseless allegations since we terminated his service. “
