Ashutosh Rana is an Indian actor, producer, author and television host who works in films in various languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. He is known for playing negative characters in films. He also won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for the Hindi films Dushman (1998), in which he played the role of Gokul Pandit, and Sanharshi (1999), in which he played the role of Laja Shankar Pandey.

Ashutosh Rana aka Ashutosh Ramnarayan Nehra was born on Friday, 10 November 1967 (age 55; as of 2022) in Gardarwara, Madhya Pradesh, India. His zodiac sign is Scorpio.

He did his primary schooling in Gaadarwara, Madhya Pradesh. Later, he attended Christ Church Boys’ High School in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, but his father did not like the school’s culture, so he asked Ashutosh to leave the school. He then completed his schooling in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. As a child, he played the character of Ravana in his village, Ramliela. He did his BA and LLB from Dr. HS Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. While in college, he wanted to become a political leader.

Ashutosh Rana once met Indian actress Renuka Shahan for the first time on the sets of Hansal Mehta’s Hindi film Jayate. Ashutosh was accompanied by his two friends Rajeshwari Sachdev (singer) and Tejaswini Kolhapur (actor). Rajeshwar was friends with Renuka and he introduced Ashutosh to Renuka. At the first meeting, both became good friends because they had similar interests. Later, speaking to Renuka, Ashutosh said:
Humne Movie Me Aapka Kaam Dkha Hai. Hum aapke bade prashansak hain”.
After the first meeting, they did not meet each other for several months. Ashutosh then attended a Diwali party at Indian director Ravi Rai’s house, where Renuka was also invited, but she was unable to attend the party. Ashutosh then asked Ravi to share Renuka’s contact number. In an interview, recalling those days, Ashutosh said:
He (Ravi) warned me that Renuka does not accept unknown numbers and does not check her phone after 10 pm. He was right. I left (Dushehra) a wish on her answering machine with my name but not my number, hoping she would find a way to contact me. “
During an interview, when Renuka was asked about the incident, she said:
In October, director Ravi Rai was planning the series and had Ashutosh, a few others and me in mind. Ravi Rai organized a Diwali party at his place where Ashutosh could not make it as he had to give an interview. The next day he called me on my voicemail and wished me a happy Diwali. That was on October 17th, he called again on October 19th and finally on October 20th, 1998.
After listening to his voicemail, Renuka called him back and they talked for an hour. Then they started talking daily on the phone and on December 31, 1998, they met for the second time. Renuka was a bit skeptical about starting a relationship with Ashutosh as she was coming out of a bad marriage phase. In an interview, when Ashutosh was asked about Renuka’s first marriage, he said:
His past never came up in any of our long discussions, there was no doubt on my part. “
After that, Ashutosh and Renuka decided to get married, but her mother was a bit worried as Ashutosh had a joint family and Renuka’s mother was worried about how he would get along with them. After dating for two and a half years, the couple got married on 25 May 2001 in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh. In an interview, talking about marriage, Renuka said:
On the morning of the 25th itself, we reached Damoh station and the wedding ceremony was scheduled at 12 noon. To our surprise, we found the entire station filled with crowds of people, like a political rally. We literally had to fight our way to the jeep that came to us. And then we stood in the jeep and turned to the people standing on both sides of the road.”

- When Ashutosh completed his 11th grade, he celebrated his results by playing the drums in his village. In an interview, recalling those days, Ashutosh said:
No one believed that I would pass the 11th standard, but when the results came, I passed with joy. My friends and I came down in a truck while I was playing the drums to say I passed.”
- During the interview, Ashutosh shared an interesting story behind his name. He said that he used to keep his own name in his house during the puja. She said,
It was Lord Shiv Ji’s Rudra Abhishek and my parents chanted the mantra ‘Om Ashutoshaye Namah’. Then I asked my parents about the meaning of Ashutosh, my mother said it refers to someone who gets happy easily. I immediately decided to keep my name in Ashutosh.
- His mother died in January 1984, which affected him mentally. Within months of his mother’s death, he met spiritual guru Dada Ji, who helped him overcome his trauma. Since then, Ashutosh has been an ardent follower of Dada Ji. It was Dada Ji who encouraged Ashutosh to pursue an acting career.
