Apoorva Shukla is a Supreme Court lawyer. She came to the center of attention when it was revealed that she had murdered her husband by strangling and suffocating him to death. She has been the president of the youth wing of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

Apoorva Shukla is from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She received her primary education from SICA Higher Secondary School, Indore. She also pursued her higher studies at a university in Indore. She met her husband, Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, in Lucknow through a marriage website in 2017. They began dating and lived together for a year. They separated in January 2018; when Rohit told his mother that he did not want to marry Apoorva at all, but they finally decided to mutually marry each other in April 2018. They got married on May 11, 2018. They had a tense marriage since the day they got married and within a month of getting married, they used to fight. Apoorva used to go live at her parents’ house in Indore whenever they fought. The couple planned to file for divorce in June 2019.

Apoorva belonged to a Brahmin family. Her father, PK Shukla, is a Senior Advocate at the Indore High Court and her brother, Santosh Shukla, is a Advocate at the Supreme Court of India. Not much is known about her family. She was married to Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, son of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister ND Tiwari.

Career
Apoorva finished her studies and university in Indore, and started practicing law at the Indore High Court in 2015. In 2016, she went to the Supreme Court of India to continue her practice.

She was involved in politics and her political leaning was towards the Indian National Congress (INC). On January 22, 2017, she was appointed as the national chairperson of the youth wing of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

Controversy
On April 15, 2019, Rohit was returning home to New Delhi from Uttarakhand; where she had gone with her mother, her sister-in-law and some employees to cast their vote for the General Elections. Apoorva made a video call to Rohit that night at 5:30 pm and saw that he was drinking in the back seat of the car with his sister-in-law; which made her furious. Upon her return, she confronted Rohit and questioned his close relatives with his sister-in-law. Rohit assured her that nothing was wrong and dismissed her argument. He was very drunk and could not speak or walk properly; he took the support of the wall to walk. Apoorva became so enraged that when Rohit moved away from her, she pounced on him. Since Rohit was drunk, he couldn’t resist the attack and fell on the bed; he was also weak due to his heart bypass surgery that he had undergone a year ago.
Apoorva strangled him with her bare hands, then covered his face with a pillow; to silence her screams, and within minutes, Rohit was dead. After his death, Apoorva realized what he had done and started pacing the room in a panic. She cleaned the room and got rid of all the evidence and left the room at 2 AM. The next morning, Rohit’s employee, Golu, entered her room, assumed she was sleeping, and left. Rohit’s mother kept calling him, but every time Apoorva told her not to bother Rohit; as he was sleeping.
At 3:30 PM, Golu entered Rohit’s room to finally wake him up; but he discovered that he was bleeding from the nose. He informed Rohit’s mother immediately and she rushed to her house in an ambulance. He was taken to Saket Max Specialty Hospital; where he was pronounced brought dead. His body was sent to AIIMS for autopsy. The doctors discovered that his death was caused by suffocation, by strangulation and suffocation. One case was registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and reported to the police.
They took statements from Rohit’s mother and Apoorva, and the body was cremated. Police found many irregularities in Apoorva’s statement. She was arrested on April 24, 2019 for questioning and, after changing her statement several times, she confessed to her crime.
