Ajmal Ameer is an Indian actor, model, and physician, who mostly works in the South Indian film industry. As of 2023, he has acted in over 30 films in different languages. He is known for his films, Anjathe (2008), Ko (2011), and Netrikann (2021).

Ajmal Ameer was born on Friday, 8 November 1985 (age 38 years; as of 2023) in Aluva, Kerala, India. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He attended school at Nirmala Higher Secondary School and Vidyadhi Raja Vidya Bhavan English Medium H. S. in Aluva, Kerala. For undergraduate studies, he joined St. Paul’s College in Kalamassery, Ernakulam, Kerala. He studied medicine at the National Piragov Medical University in Vinnytsia, Ukraine.

Career

Film

Ajmal Ameer started his career as a model, from where he got entry into the film industry. His first film is February 14 (2005) where he played a relatively insignificant role and is uncredited. In his debut film, Pranayakalam (2007), he played a young man named Renjith, romantically involved with the character played by actor Vimala Raman.

He next appeared in the Tamil film Anjathe (2008) directed by Mysskin. His character, Kripakaran, won him the Best Supporting Role at the 56th Filmfare Awards and many other accolades.

The same year, Ajmal appeared as Mohanlal’s rebellious younger brother in the Malayalam film Madampi (2008). His character, Ramakrishna Pillai, was well-received by the audience.

Then came his Tamil films TN 07 AL 4777 (2009) and Thiru Thiru Thiru Thiru (2009) which worked well commercially. His next Malayalam film, De Nova (2010) did not do well at the box office.  His character as a politician with many grey shades, Vasanthan Perumal, in the Tamil film Ko (2011), won him many awards and critical acclaim.

 

His first film in the Telugu film industry, Racha (2012), had a successful run. He was part of Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam industries from the start of his career. His films, the Malayalam suspense-thriller Bangles (2013), Karuppampatti (2014), and Vetri Selvan (2014) in Tamil, did not do well for multiple reasons, such as lack of publicity.

In Malayalam, he appeared in small roles in the films Loham (2014) and Two Countries (2015). Those two roles were appreciated by the audience. He appeared in a guest role as a priest in the award-winning Malayalam film Ben (2015). His negative role as Dr. James Dinah in Vignesh Shivan’s Tamil crime thriller Netrikann (2021), was a commercial success. This film featured Nayanthara as a blind person in the lead role.

He came back to the Mollywood industry with the films, Kshanam (2022), Pathaam Valavu (2022), Paappan (2022), Gold (2022) and Abhyuham (2023). His bilingual film, Second Show (2022) was released in Tamil and Sinhalese languages. Ajmal Ameer appeared as an IPS officer and district commissioner Adithya in the film Theerkadarishi (2023).
