Addressing the media on behalf of the allegedly exploited female wrestlers – the wrestlers staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi – Vinesh Phogat,
“Women wrestlers have been sexually assaulted at national camps by coaches and the WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan,” stated the country’s lone double World Championship medalist.

For years, specific national camp instructors have been sexually harassing female wrestlers. The president of the WFI is also involved in sexual harassment.”

“Adhyaksh (WFI President) and a few instructors at the national camp sexually abused female wrestlers,” she said. “No one accepts blame for injuries.
Wrestlers may be barred from competing in nationals. The WFI President referred to me as khota Sikka (useless). I had considered suicide.
“I’ve said it frankly today: I don’t know if I’ll be alive tomorrow. We have repeatedly urged that the camp be relocated away from Lucknow. Why does it only happen there? Because he may easily prey on the female wrestlers.”

Sharan Singh was born to Shri Jagdamba Sharan Singh and Smt. Pyari Devi Singh on January 8, 1957.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is a robust politician from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh. He has rejected the charges and stated that he is “ready to be hung” if the allegations are accurate.

Brij Bhushan, head of the Wrestling Federation of India, dismissed the charges when wrestlers protested against the board.
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat has previously claimed that the WFI President had sexually harassed female wrestlers. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is a Bharatiya Janata Party politician from Kaiserganj who is now a member of parliament.
As a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, he was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha from the Gonda seat in Uttar Pradesh in 1991.
He was re-elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from the same seat in 1999, and in 2004, he was re-elected to the 14th Lok Sabha on the BJP ticket from the Balrampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh state. He joined the Samajwadi Party on July 20, 2008.
He was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009 from the Kaiserganj seat in Uttar Pradesh.
He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party months before the 16th general election and is now a member of the BJP’s 17th Lok Sabha. He is the President of the Indian Wrestling Federation (WFI).
