Sohail Tanvir is a Pakistani former cricketer who played as a bowler for the Pakistan National Cricket Team. He gained popularity for his excellent performance in the Twenty20 format of Cricket. In 2009, Sohail was a part of the Pakistan National Cricket Team that won the ICC World Twenty20 Championship.

One Day International (ODI)
Sohail Tanvir was named in the Pakistan One Day International squad for their series against South Africa in October 2007. He made his One Day International debut for Pakistan against South Africa at Lahore on 18 October 2007. In the same year, he was selected for Pakistan’s tour of India, where he played a few one-day international matches and claimed eight wickets.

In the 2008 Asia Cup, he played his first match for Pakistan against Hong Kong in Karachi, where he scored 59 runs off 55 balls, marking his maiden ODI 50. Although Pakistan’s top order struggled to score runs against Hong Kong, Sohail partnered with Fawad Alam for 100 runs, helping Pakistan to make a respectable score of 288 runs. He then represented Pakistan in a match against Sri Lanka, where he took his first five-wicket haul. He ended at 5/48 in 10 overs. He played his last one-day international match for Pakistan against New Zealand on 17 December 2014 at Abu Dhabi.
T20 International (T20I)
Sohail Tanvir was included in Pakistan’s squad for the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007. He replaced Shoaib Akhtar in the tournament. Sohail made his T20 International debut for Pakistan against India on 14 September 2007 at Durban. In the tournament, he played six matches and took six wickets, with best bowling figures of 3 for 31 in four overs against Australia.

Sohail got the chance to bat only in the final match of the tournament, where he hit a six in the first ball. After participating in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, Tanvir went on a year break because of injuries. He played his last match for Pakistan against West Indies on 1 April 2017 at Port of Spain.
Test
Sohail Tanvir was named in the Pakistan National Squad in 2007 for their Test series against India. He replaced the injured Umar Gul in the series. Sohail made his test debut on 22 November 2007 for Pakistan against India at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi (now Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Delhi). In his debut match, he claimed three wickets including the wickets of Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. He played his last Test match on 30 November 2007 for Pakistan against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Sohail made his Indian Premier League debut for Rajasthan Royal against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on 26 April 2008. He played his last IPL match for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on 1 June 2008.

Accused of Giving Death Threats to His First Wife
In October 2011, Sohail Tanvir’s first wife, Nausheen Agha, filed a complaint against him at the Shalimar police station in Islamabad, accusing him of giving death threats and not providing maintenance to her and their daughter.
On-Field Clash With Ben Cutting
In 2018, Sohail Tanvir sparked controversy for making an obscene gesture with his middle finger while giving Ben Cutting a send-off after dismissing him during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Sohail was heavily criticised for his behaviour on the field.
