Shivangi and I ran away and got married. He is a Maharashtrian and I am a Punjabi. I played a villain and my reputation was not good. His family didn’t agree to the marriage, so we had to run away. He was 18 when we got married (in 1982). When he was 19, my son Siddhant was born. It was the first time Shivangi’s mother spoke to him after our marriage when she came to meet him at Breach Candy Hospital.’
Shakti also said,
Shivangi’s family did not approve of our relationship. My father Sikandarlal Kapur came to know about this in Delhi, he decided not to talk to me. The mother once asked to meet the girl. As soon as he saw Shivangi, who is 10-12 years younger than me, Badi Pyaar looked like Bachi Hai (he said he is really good). She sang two lines and my father stood up and asked her how she sings so well. I told him that Lata ji is his first cousin, he stood up and said, “Teri sab galtiyaan maaf (all your mistakes are forgiven) as you have married into such a big family.” He asked her to sing Lata Ji’s song and shared that she is a big fan of her. As soon as Shivangi sang, he immediately got emotional.”
