Robert Leon Jordan was a federal judge in the United States. He was born on June 28, 1934, and died on February 27, 2024, at the age of 89.
In 1988, President Ronald Reagan appointed him to be a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
Judge Robert Love Taylor previously held the position. The Senate confirmed Jordan for this position on October 14, 1988.
He officially became a district court judge on October 17, 1988.
After serving as an active judge for over 13 years, Jordan took senior status on November 30, 2001.

On February 27, 2024, at the age of 89, Jordan died at his home in Maryville, Tennessee, according to Don K. Ferguson, a retired clerk and historian for the court.
The cause of Judge Jordan’s ***** on Tuesday morning remains unclear and mysterious as of now.
Jordan’s wife, Dorothy, to whom he was married for over 60 years, had preceded him in *****; she died in December 2022 at 91 years old.
Jordan leaves behind two adult sons.

Robert Leon Jordan was born in Woodlawn, Tennessee. After high school, he served in the United States Army for two years, from 1954 to 1956.
After being honourably discharged from the Army, Jordan attended the University of Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958.
He then stayed at the University of Tennessee for law school, completing his Juris Doctor degree at the College of Law in 1960.
Upon graduating law school, Jordan started working as a private practice attorney in Nashville, Tennessee, from 1960 to 1961.
He then took a job as a manager at the Frontier Refining Company in Denver, Colorado, from 1962 to 1964 before returning to private legal practice in Johnson City, Tennessee, for a couple years.

Following that, he served as a trust officer at various banks, starting with First People’s Bank of Johnson City until 1969, then First National Bank of Milton, Florida, and finally as Vice President at Commercial National Bank of Pensacola, Florida, until 1971.
In 1971, Jordan resumed practicing law privately in Johnson City, Tennessee. He worked as an attorney in private practice for almost a decade.
Then, from 1980 to 1988, he was appointed Chancellor of the First Judicial District of Tennessee.
Furthermore, this means he served as a judge in a state-level court for eight years before becoming a federal judge.
