Nawalle Ormerod was a 37-year-old mother whose name made headlines online following her death.

She died after being struck by a drunk and stoned driver named Pierce Whelan in Nuneaton and then dragged under his car for more than half a mile.  

Besides, Ormerod was not only the one who was struck as Whelan also struck another pedestrian. He suffered life-changing injuries in the collision that happened on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

This case is again in the spotlight as the man who killed Nawalle recently was jailed for 21 years. Pierce was sentenced after admitting charges of manslaughter and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Nawalle Ormerod was a 37-year-old mother who passed away after getting involved in a deadly accident. Her full name was Nawelle Tina Ormerod.

Pierce Whelan, aged 35, from Nuneaton, struck Nawalle with his Peugeot 406 car on what was then known as the Roanne Ringway.

After that, he dragged her under his car for around 900 meters before leaving her body on Marlborough Road.

Sadly, Ormerod suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. As said earlier, Nawalle was not only the one who got into the accident.

A 28-year-old male pedestrian was also in the deadly accident. After that, he was thrown over his car and landed at the rear, suffering broken bones and arm lacerations.

Nawalle Ormerod Killer Pierce Whelan Has Been Sentenced

A drunk driver Pierce Whelan was more than twice over the limit and killed Nawalle. He was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, and driving while intoxicated, and he was taken into custody.

Likewise, Pierce had 82 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Not only that, the Saliva test showed cannabis presence. Later, he was arrested for drug driving and manslaughter.

Furthermore, he was later found guilty and appeared at Warwick Crown Court on March 3, 2023.

Pierce received a 21-year sentence for manslaughter and an additional 3-year sentence for causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The Crown Prosecution Service described it as one of the most severe hit-and-run cases. Judge Lockhart gave Whelan a lifetime driving ban for pleading guilty to two charges on December 13, with a third charge of causing death by dangerous driving held on file.

Inspector Michael Huntley, who leads the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Warwickshire Police, commented after the sentencing that Whelan’s actions had caused permanent damage to many lives.

Likewise, he thanked the public, Police officers and colleagues in the West Midlands Ambulance Service.
