Following a traffic check in Laramie County that turned up more than 38 grams of fentanyl, a 39-year-old Cheyenne man has been charged with felony drug possession.

According to arrest documents, Ashley Nicole Hyatt, 34, of Gillette, was stopped by deputies for speeding close to mile marker two on Interstate 25 yesterday, May 18, at approximately 4 p.m..

When Cheyenne Police Officer Pat Johnston arrived during the traffic stop, he deployed K-9 Pavel, who alerted the car.

After the car was searched, authorities found around 17.4 grams of suspected fentanyl powder in a bag and about 21 grams of suspected fentanyl tablets in their packaging.

Following their detention, Hyatt and her passenger, Michael Lorenzo-Christian Guzman, were charged with two counts of felonies, each of criminal possession of Schedule I and II narcotics and lodged into the Laramie County Detention Center. 

In addition, Hyatt was detained on a federal warrant. Guzman made his initial court appearance on Friday in Laramie County Circuit Court.

He was charged with one count of criminal possession of fentanyl, but Hyatt was not the subject of any charges, according to Chief Clerk Emily Fowler.

Guzman’s preliminary hearing was set for May 26 at 3:30 p.m. his bond was set at $5,000 cash.
