Sameer Khakhar (1952-2023) was an Indian actor. He worked in many Hindi films and TV shows. He became popularafter appearing in DD National’s 1986 TV show ‘Nukkad’ in which he played the role of Khopdi. In 2023, he died of multiple organ failure at a hospital in Mumbai.

In 1987, he debuted with the Hindi film ‘Jawab Hum Denge’ in which he played the role of Kulkarni.

In the same year, he appeared as a rich man in the Hindi translation of the Kannada film titled ‘Pushpak,’ which was a silent film. In 1989, he played the role of Iqbal in the Hindi crime drama film ‘Parinda.’ In 1989, he played the role of a drunkard in the Hindi film ‘Rakhwaala.’ He appeared as an orphanage manager in the Hindi film ‘Dhartiputra’ released in 1993. In the same year, he played the role of constable Panna in the Bollywood film ‘Hum Hain Kamaal Ke.’ In 1994, he played the role of Kewalchand in the Hindi film ‘Prem Shakti.’ In the same year, he played the role of Amavas in the Bollywood comedy melodrama film ‘Raja Babu’ in which Govinda and Karisma Kapoor were cast in lead roles. In 1995, he worked in a Hindi short film titled ‘Teen Chor.’ He appeared as a cameraman in the 1996 Hindi film ‘Return of jewel Thief’ starring Dev Anand and Ashok Kumar. In 1997, he worked in the Hindi film ‘Agni Morcha.’ In 2014, he played a supporting role as Alpesh Bhai in the Hindi rom-com film ‘Hasee Toh Phasee.’ In the same year, he played the role of a drunkard man in the Hindi political action film ‘Jai Ho’ starring Salman Khan and Tabu. In 2017, he worked in the Hindi romantic comedy film ‘Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi.’ The Hindi film ‘Pataakha’ was the last film in which he worked. The film was released in 2018 in which he played the role of Sarpanch.

In 1989, he played the role of Chintamani in DD National’s TV series ‘Circus.’ He was cast to play the role of Toto, the film director, in DD Metro’s Hindi sitcom ‘Shrimaan Shrimati,’ which was released in 1994. In 2013, he played the role of Sishpal Shastri in SET’s courtroom drama series ‘Adaalat.’ He played the role of Guddu Mathur in StarPlus’ medical drama series ‘Sanjivani,’ which was released in 2019.

Death

He died due to multiple organ failure at MM Hospital in Borivali, Mumbai on 15 March 2023. Reportedly, he had respiratory issues before being admitted to the hospital in Mumbai.

Facts/Trivia

  • In 1985, he appeared in a theatrical production titled ‘Chhunn Chhhun Karti Aai Chidiya’ directed by Imtiaz Khan, elder brother of Amjad Khan. He acted in the theatrical production alongside Amjad Khan.
  • In an interview, he revealed that before working in ‘Nukkad,’ he used to work in theatrical productions.
  • Reportedly, he took a short break from acting and moved to the USA. In the USA, he worked as a software engineer; however, he lost his job in 2008. Later, he returned to India and began to act in theatrical productions. He worked in 3 Gujarati theatre plays.
  • In May 2017, he appeared alongside Lopamudra Raut in a TV commercial for Cricbuzz mobile app.
