Neetu Pandey was born on Wednesday, 28 November 1979 (age 45 years; as of 2024) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Her zodiac sign is Sagittarius. She caught the acting bug at a very young age. Growing up, she dreamed of becoming an actor. She got married at the age of 17, when she was in Class 11, but continued to stay with her parents. Her family followed the tradition of “Gohna,” where the bride returns to her parents’ home after marriage and stays there until the mutually decided time. She completed her Class 12 before moving to her in-laws’ house. She was married into a big family with 7-8 members and got busy looking after her household. Soon, she had a daughter. While raising her daughter, she completed her graduation pursuing a correspondence course from Kanpur University (now CSJM University). In 2008, she moved to Mumbai. At that time, her daughter was very young. Therefore, she would juggle between her work in Mumbai and spending time with her daughter in Lucknow.

Career

Beginning and Theater

She started her career in the entertainment industry in 2002. Before that, she was a teacher. She started working as a teacher when her daughter enrolled in school at the age of three. Every day, on her way from school to home, she used to look at Bhartendu Natya Academy (BNA), a drama school in Lucknow. One day, she visited BNA and enrolled in a summer workshop to learn acting and drama. Her classes used to be in the evening, from 3 pm to 6 pm. Neetu’s conservative in-laws were unaware of her dream to pursue a career in acting. In an interview, she said that it was her elder sister-in-law Poonam who supported her at every stage. Poonam and Neetu lied to their in-laws they were going to an evening computer class, while in reality, Poonam joined Neetu in visiting BNA. However, Poonam and Neetu were able to pull off this lie for only a month. After that, their in-laws discovered that Neetu was attending an acting workshop and forbade her from it. Neetu convinced them to let her attend this one workshop as she was halfway through. Her first play was Charandas Chor by Habib Tanvir in which she played the role of the queen. Initially, she was cast as a “daasi” (handmaiden of queen), but the woman who was supposed to play the role of the queen left for a trip, giving Neetu an opportunity to play the lead. After that, she continued to work as a theatre artist til0 2008, starring in numerous theatrical productions in Lucknow.

Television

While working as a theatre artist, she started working at Doordarshan, where she was a B-grade artist. She used to host 3-4 shows for Doordarshan like Krishi Darshan. She also hosted ETV’s show Salaam UP. On 24 December 2008, she moved to Mumbai, the heart of the Indian entertainment industry, with her friend for better opportunities. On 27 December 2008, she did her first shoot in Mumbai. She secured the opportunity through a co-ordinator named Saurabh Sharma. Before that, she had auditioned at Vishal Kapoor’s office. She started her journey as a TV actor playing the role of a doctor in a show. Thereafter, she played a variety of small roles in numerous TV shows. She would earn 1500-2000 per day at that time. Between 2010 and 2011, she played four different roles in the police procedural drama CID on Sony Entertainment Television. She has made multiple appearances in the crime shows Savdhaan India: Crime Alert (2012) on Life OK, Gumrah End of Innocence (2015) on Channel V India, and Crime Patrol Dial 100 (2016) on Sony.

Other TV shows in which she starred include Har Yug Mein Aayega Ek – Arjun (2012) on STAR Plus. In 2020, she appeared on the show Kiske Roke Ruka Hai Savera on DD Kisan.

In 2022, she was seen in STAR Plus’ popular drama series Imlie as Narmada Rathore, Aryan and Arpita’s mother.

Simultaneously, she was also appearing on Zee TV Aggar Tum Na Hote in which she played Anand’s mother. In 2023, she started playing the role of Jyoti, Deva’s mother, in the soap opera Chand Jalne Laga on Colors TV. In 2024, she starred in Sony’s mythological TV series Shrimad Ramayan as Kaikasi.

In 2005, she made her film debut with the romantic comedy Main, Meri Patni… Aur Woh! in which she played the role of one of the members of Veena’s family. The film starred Rajpal Yadav, Rituparna Sengupta, and Kay Kay Menon as the lead actors.
