Kathryn Grant Suicide: After 27 Years Of Baby Murder, Mother Kills Herself
In 1996, an infant male weighing around 8 pounds and covered in blood was found dead in a bathroom in the basement of Oglethorpe House.
The baby was named “Jonathan Foundling” by Police officials and had a funeral attended by over 200 people, with UGA police serving as pallbearers.

The case went unsolved for 25 years until March 2021, when detectives used DNA genealogical testing to solve it.
After a long process, it was discovered that Kathryn had given birth to a baby boy and stabbed him to death. She gave birth to him on August 13, 1996.
It was found that Kathryn Anne Grant used to be a UGA student who was living at Oglethorpe House at the time of the murder.
But she committed suicide after eight years of her kid’s murder. She committed suicide in Wilkes County in 2004 at the age of 29.
No documents suggest Grant was questioned about the baby’s death during the initial investigation.
Clarification Of The Case of Kathryn Grant
In June 2021, UGA detectives delivered blood samples from the baby and the mother’s placenta to a lab in Texas.
The lab reported in September 2021 that it had found two people who might be related to the victim, and one of them was likely the father.
Both men were identified and determined to be enrolled at UGA at the time of the murder. The officers then secured a search warrant to obtain their DNA.

On December 14, 2022, the man who was likely the father of the deceased newborn was interviewed and confirmed that he had a sexual relationship with a woman named Grant, whom he only remembered by her last name.
The detectives searched for a female student named Grant and found that Kathryn was staying in room 301 of Oglethorpe House at the time of the murder.
However, it was reported that they also found an obituary for Grant that showed she died in Wilkes County in 2004.
The detectives searched Grant’s campus records and found that her grades began dropping when she became pregnant and gave birth to the baby.
UGA reported that the baby boy was of Grant; it was clarified that she was not doing good with her mental health at the time of her death.
After almost 17 years, they discovered the murderer who committed suicide after eight years of murder.
