From 2005 to 2014, she attended Lilavatibai Podar High School, Mumbai. In 2014, she joined in B.D. Somani International School, Mumbai, where she pursued a two-year IB Diploma. For a brief period in 2016, she enrolled in University College Utrecht, Netherlands to pursue a bachelor’s degree, but soon, she dropped out.

After 16 years of marriage, Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta got divorced in December 2002 following which Reena took custody of both the children. On 28 December 2005, Khan married Kiran Rao, an Indian film producer, screenwriter, and director who works in Hindi cinema.

Ethnicity
Ira Khan belongs to a Muslim Pathans or Pashtuns family. Originating from the Khan clan of Peshawar, Aamir Khan’s family follows Shia Islam. Meanwhile, Reena Dutta belonged to a Hindu-Bengali family. In an interview, Aamir Khan talked about his ethnicity and said,
My full name is Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan. A lot of Muslims keep Mohammed as a first name after the Prophet. My name is Aamir. Hussain is the surname. Khan is a tribe name or what, I don’t know. Khans are Pathans, I imagine. All of us are Pathans in terms of surname.”
Reena Dutta remained a practising Hindu even after marriage. Previously, Aamir Khan had declared that his kids will only follow Islam.
Career
In January 2017, she started her career as a Production Intern at Equinox Films Pvt Ltd, where she worked for 3 months. Thereafter, she started working as a Freelance Assistant Director during which she worked on various advertisements. In 2019, Ira made her directorial debut with a theatre production, Euripides’ Medea. The play was an adaptation of Euripides’ Greek tragedy Medea and starred Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan and actress Hazel Keech.

In 2020, she worked as an Assistant Director at the film and TV studio Tiger Baby. In March 2021, she launched Agatsu Foundation which focuses on prevailing mental health issues.

Trolled For a Playful Picture With Her Father (2018)
In 2018, she received criticism for a picture with her father, Aamir Khan, in which the father-daughter duo displayed a playful mood enjoying family time. The picture was considered inappropriate by netizens who slammed Aamir and Ira by posting numerous obscene comments.

Trolled For Dancing With Her Boyfriend (2019)
In June 2020, she posted a video on her Instagram account in which she was dancing and hugging her boyfriend Mishaal Kirpalani. While many were awed by the cuteness of the couple, Ira became a target of orthodox and conservative Islamists who believed that she was disrespecting her religion as her behaviour wasn’t that of an ideal ‘Muslima.’

- Born to an actor father, Ira Khan did not want to follow in the footsteps of her father when it came to her career choice. In an interview, she revealed that she was never inclined towards acting. She said,
I’ve always felt more comfortable and enthusiastic about working off-stage or behind the camera rather than [being] in front of it. I’ve never felt the inclination to act except if it were in an action film, so I get to learn all the cool stunts. Then again… I can just learn how to do the stunts without a film to work on.”
- When she was six, she was diagnosed with Tuberculosis.
- In a video posted on her Instagram account, she revealed that she faced sexual harassment at the age of 14. She didn’t reveal the identity of the person and said that it took her about a year to realize that she was being molested after which she approached her parents for help.
