Deverin King Accident: 18-Year-Old Evangel Athlete Death And Obituary

An SUV and a motorcycle collided on Glenstone Avenue south of Chestnut Expressway, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, Deverin King, an 18-year-old resident of Springfield.

The incident was reported to the Springfield police at 3:08 p.m. on Thursday. The Ford Explorer, driven by Villalobos Chico, exited a parking lot when the collision occurred.

Despite attempts to save his life, King died at the scene. King was riding a green 2005 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Glenstone Avenue when he collided with an orange 2004 Ford Explorer Sport driven by Villalobos Chico, a 50-year-old resident of Springfield.

The collision occurred on Glenstone while the Ford Explorer Sport was traveling southbound. 

The investigation is ongoing, but there is no suspicion of impairment as a factor in the crash. Chico, the sole occupant of the SUV, did not suffer any injuries.

King’s high school coach Shem Johnson said, “Honestly, I felt right to my knees,” “I was in shock. I couldn’t believe it.”

Coach Johnson and Deverin had a close relationship and considered each other friends, with Johnson regarding King as a son. According to Johnson, King lived a life that could not be improved.

“We truly became friends,” said Johnson. “And ultimately, I looked at him as a son because everything we did couldn’t ask for anything better.

He added, “Out of a student-athlete, out of a young man who would just live life the way you want to.”

It was mentioned that he was a person who prioritized his family and friends and was always available to support them.
