He was arrested for his association with TMC minister Partha Chatterjee, who was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 23, 2022 for his alleged involvement in the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) teacher recruitment scam. Later, a picture of CM Mamata Banerjee with Arpita went viral on social media, after which the TMC was alleged to be involved in the scam. In a tweet, Mamata spoke about the allegations against her and said:
