One of the researchers who helped create the Russian Covid-19 vaccine, Andrey Botikov, was killed, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with his death.
The late scientist was inhumanly strangled to death with a belt at his Moscow apartment, according to a report in Russian media on March 4, 2023.
According to the Russian Federation’s Investigative Committee, Mr. Botikov, who worked at the Gamaleya National Research Center for Environment and Mathematics, was found dead on Thursday.
In 2021, he was also awarded the Fatherland honor by Vladimir Putin (Russian President) for his work on the covid vaccination.
According to reports, out of the 18 scientists, Andrey was also present while working on the Sputnik V vaccine in 2020.
The committee, the investigating agency in Russia, declared in a Telegram release that his death is being considered a possible murder.

According to a report in Russian media, the police have detained a young suspect, 29, in association with the murder of Andrey Botikov.

Investigators claim that after arguing with Botikov, the suspect used a belt to choke him before running away. Additionally, law enforcement officials informed the local media that the crime was domestic violence and the outcome of a dispute.
Official accounts claim the 47-year-old virologist’s death resulted from a botched burglary. Still, it is important to remember that this incident is one of several mysterious deaths among the Russian elite, including businessmen and scientists, over the past year.
Moreover, according to the Investigative Committee, “The attacker’s position was quickly determined.
The suspect accepted his crime and expressed his guilt while being questioned. The defendant has a criminal history because he was tried for allegedly committing a severe crime.
The investigation intends to petition the court shortly to hold the defendant in custody awaiting trial.
